Both systems give you 16 million colors, which in practice means any color you can pick on a screen. JellyFish ships with more than 100 preset patterns and lets you build your own. Bosso ships with 256 default presets and allows unlimited custom ones.

Zones are where the design work happens. A zone is a section of track you control independently: the gables, the garage eave, the porch. Bosso supports up to 8 zones per controller. JellyFish zones are set when the layout is designed. App, voice and the smart home

JellyFish runs on a cloud app, so you can turn the house on from Neyland Stadium or from a hotel in Florida. Scenes, schedules and zones all live in the app, and we build the first few with you before we leave.

Bosso's current app goes further into the smart home. It integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri and Control4, so the lights can join the routines you already run. Its Cat Bot assistant takes typed or spoken plain-language commands like "make my lights orange" or "set a Christmas theme." Music activation syncs the lights to sound picked up by the phone microphone, which is a party feature rather than a daily one. If your Hardin Valley build already runs Control4, or your household talks to Alexa more than it opens apps, that integration is a real reason to look hard at Bosso. It does need solid Wi-Fi where the controller sits, usually the garage.

Warranty, lifespan and who you call

Both carry five years on parts. The difference is year one. JellyFish's first year is bumper-to-bumper: parts, labor and service. Bosso covers parts for five years and labor for one. On lifespan the two are effectively the same product class: LEDs rated around 50,000 hours. JellyFish states that as roughly 15 to 20 years of evening use; Bosso states it as 25 to 30 years at about five hours a night. The hours are the same, the assumptions about your evenings are different. JellyFish has the longer real-world history, with its earliest 2016 installs still running.

Power, controllers and install day

Neither system will show up on your Knoxville Utilities Board bill in any meaningful way. A JellyFish light draws under one watt at full-bright white, a Bosso light draws 0.96 watts, and Bosso puts it plainly: a 250-light system draws about what five ordinary bulbs do.

Controller layout is a practical difference. When JellyFish is the right call

• Newer construction with straight fascia. Everett Woods, Hanley Hall and Covered Bridge in Hardin Valley, and most of Farragut's subdivisions, have builder-grade fascia that a color-matched aluminum track sits on without compromise. This is where we fit the most permanent lighting in the metro.
• Long runs on one controller. A wide two-story front plus a side is often under 263 feet, so one controller does it.
• You want the system with the longest history. JellyFish has been on houses since 2016 and New Age Lights is an authorized dealer.

When Bosso is the right call

• Everyday warm white is the main use. The dedicated white diode is the cleanest way to get a true warm white on brick.
• Your house already talks to Alexa, Google, Siri or Control4. Bosso joins those routines natively.
• The roofline edge is unusual. Bearden mixes 1920s houses with modern infill, Sequoyah Hills is largely 1920s and 30s, and Fountain City around Gibbs Drive still has its early-twentieth-century stock. Those fascia, drip edge and gutter profiles do not always take the system most installers lead with. Bosso's fixture and mounting give us a second option, which is why the site describes it as the system we fit to homes JellyFish does not suit.
• You want many independent zones. Eight per controller covers a complicated elevation.
• Music sync is something you will actually use. Fourth of July on a Fort Loudoun Lake dock, for instance.
